Most of my prints are monotypes,
done on an etching press. These one-of-a-kind prints
are often a combination of several techniques, such
as painting on the plate, hand rubbing, collage, clay
prints, photo transfers, etc. The prints are often run
through the press several times to achieve a multi-layered
look.
Inspiration and ideas usually come from things I know
and love: the garden and all its many inhabitants, my
collections of things, interesting dwellings, old books
and magazines, scraps of paper I pick up on trips. I
also look to my favorite artists (mostly the Expressionists)
Schmidt-Rottluff, Matisse, Rouault, Kirshner, Modersohn-Becker,
Modigiliani, and a host of others.
