Through the Back Door

New Works by Jacqui Beck, s. r. dickie, Mark Ditzler, Lori Duckstein, Rodolfo Garza, Kate Harkins, Jeff Maher, Suzanne Todd, and Hannah Voss

The show’s theme, “Through the Backdoor,” is interpreted by the artists in wildly diverse ways: from what might be found through one’s backdoor: an intimate scene, an exotic locale, a fantastic world – to an exploration of the nature of doors themselves. A wide range of media and styles are employed in this endeavor through representational and abstract painting, prints, mixed media, glass and enamel.

Gallery artist Lori Duckstein expresses two distinct approaches to this theme: one, a natural progression from “through the backdoor” to what’s outside that door – in this case memory fragments from backroad travels; and two, an exploration of imaginative journeys through extraordinary kinds of doors, as in “Through the Highwater Door” and “Through the Secret Door”. All the pieces in this exhibit are worked in thinly layered acrylics on hardboard or canvas. She is best known for her use of architectural iconography and whimsical character renderings.
